MIDWEST NATURAL RESOURCES

Kyla is an extremely motivated individual who creates strong interpersonal relationships with her team and has a deep passion for learning new things. While I have only known Kyla for two years, the amount of diligence and effort she puts into her work has left a lasting impression on me. Working at Midwest Natural Resources requires a lot of hours in the field working in trying conditions but Kyla kept her cool in freezing and sweltering conditions and always made sure to help her coworkers finish up before heading in for the day. She is also an asset in the office, often proposing new ideas for better business practices and helping with technical reports. I am excited to see what she does next.

Getting to know Kyla in both a professional, work related capacity and outside of it, I've seen firsthand her drive and work ethic. Professionally, much of the work was new to Kyla, but she embraced the challenge and really worked hard to further herself. It required a lot of flexiblity and dealing with tough situations, such as bad weather, rough terrain, and long days, and Kyla took it all in stride. She was always very team oriented and looking for new ways to do things and improve the company and herself. I fully believe Kyla can accomplish anything she puts her mind to, and would be an asset to any company.

GOLDEN GATE RAPTOR OBSERVATORY

Hey Kyla –

This is my “better late than never” note to say a deep congratulations and a deeper thank you.  Thank you for all the time and energy you put into making your ADOBE connections work for GGRO.  And congrats for following your heart and mind back into the biological field.  I am sorry we lost you in California, but I know your family is in the Midwest.  And family pulls strong.

I like the way you are thinking about selecting a company to work for.  I keep thinking about writing a book on the weird way the world of environmental protection solutions gets handed to the lowest bidder.  And to the bidder that pleases the clients.  Seems weirdly backward.  It’s as though the 40-year experiment has worked somewhat, but still allows massive unchecked human expansion.  Maybe that’s unavoidable.  Midwest Natural Resources looks like they are trying a new and brave model to be well known for their integrity.  I know of two or three companies like that here in California.  Not many comparatively but at least the options are there.

I’m busy cranking on fund-raising for the Sacramento RRF conference – maybe you can convince MNR to send you in November? – but really want you to know that I appreciate how much you did for us, to help draw the lines more directly between corporate SF and GGRO.  I think both the corps and we need it – so thank you Dr. Tripp.

Stay in touch and …

May all your traipsing be bird-filled –

Cheers -

ADOBE

Kyla,

From the close of the 2013 XD Week event you worked to recognize areas where we could improve for 2014.  This included synthesizing team feedback, researching 99u, and improving communication with Michael and Ops staff.   Thanks to your due diligence you were the natural choice to run point for this year.  This provided new opportunities and additional challenges for you to experience.   Throughout it all you kept pushing and fighting for what you believed was right for XD.  Impressively, along the way you also started talking about “your team” and recognizing some of the nuances of leading without direct authority.  I was able to see much growth along your journey.

I like to tell direct reports that the best measure of success is when your peers celebrate you.  To that end there has been much celebration post XD Week by all attendees.

Well done,

Hi Kyla,

Just wanted to say thanks for organizing our XD Week! For me it was the best we ever had. There is absolutely nothing I can complain about—what is very unusual for Germans ;-)

It was fun, inspiring and well organized. Locations and food were great. Show and tell was not too long for my jet-lagged head. I had been a bit unsure about the Charette, but learned how to create a concept fast. Plus it was fun working with XD people from other areas. The workshops with external trainers were playful and let me get in contact with others.

Coming back I felt it's always good to come to SF once a year to feel less disconnected. It's even worth getting on these horrible 16 hours trips. We are slowly getting back to German time zone…

Hope you're having some quite time after this event…

Cheers,

Dear Kyla,

I definitely had lots of fun during XD week. That’s indeed the best XD event ever. Thank you so much for all the considerate planning & arrangements. I can imagine there were tons of tons of tedious logistics behind the scene that we don’t know/see. Really appreciate the time and effort.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

L.C. Lin

Hi Kyla,

Hope you are doing well, and enjoyed the moon cakes with your family!

Thank you again for the wonderful opportunity you brought to me to work on such awesome projects! I really appreciated your help to me to become a better team player in addition to being a better designer. All those little things you taught me on how to bring people together and how to talk to people will be valued for years to come.

Please let me know, and tT

Best regards,

INTERNATIONAL CRANE FOUNDATION

Kyla worked as an Interpretive Guide at the International Crane Foundation, delivering programs to a variety of audiences with equal skill. She designed her programs to be informative, entertaining and mission based, bringing her unique skill set to the visitor's experience. Her interactive approach to explaining complex problems, such as striving for genetic diversity in low populations of endangered species, enabled even the youngest audiences to grasp those challenges faced by scientists and researchers. Her programs were thought-provoking, enjoyable and hopeful.

COE COLLEGE WILDERNESS FIELD STATION

Kyla was a Coe College Orientation in the Wilderness program leader and in that role she helped new students develop relationships, facilitated difficult discussions, and supported students who needed help. Her wilderness experience combined with her ability to listen made her a perfect fit for this position.
